Home Insurance: What’s Covered

Home Insurance: Whats CoveredToday home insurance has become an inseparable part of our lives. But many of us don’t know what exactly is covered by a standard homeowners insurance policy, and this may cause a number of surprises.

And most of them, unfortunately, may be rather unpleasant.

Any standard homeowners insurance policy includes four main types of coverage:

  1. Coverage for your home and the other buildings that are the part of your property (a garage or a gazebo, for example). If your properties are damaged by disasters that were specified in your policy (usually fire, lightning and so on), this type of coverage will pay for your losses. However, if the damage is done by other disasters (like flood or earthquakes), or by war or a nuclear accident, it won’t be covered. Though, you can always buy additional insurance for those types of disasters as well: check out free insurance quotes on the Internet to find new and more convenient insurance policies.
  2. Coverage for your goods and possessions (furniture, electronics, clothes and so on). If your personal belongings are stolen or damaged by the disasters listed in your policy, this type of insurance policy will cover your losses. But remember that this coverage doesn’t apply to luxury items, antique things and weapons.
  3. Liability insurance that pays for medical expenses and covers property damages, done by your fault. If you or your relatives cause some damage to other people’s health or property, the losses will be covered by your insurance. The same will happen if, for example, someone gets accidentally damaged while being in your house.
  4. Coverage for living expenses, if you have to live away from your house. For example, if your house is being reconstructed after a fire, this type of coverage will pay for your stay in a hotel, for your meals and other expenses.

These things are covered by a typical insurance policy. To know more about your own insurance policy, read the declaration page carefully. It will help you to be informed and ready for everything.
