Choose Your Dental Insurance Plan

Choose Your Dental Insurance PlanDental insurance helps you with your dental treatment. We all know how important it is, but the annual price paid for dental care is not very budget-friendly. So you may want to purchase an individual dental plan.

There are four basic dental plan models.

The first model, which is preferred by the American Dental Association (ADA), is the Direct Reimbursement plan. This is a non-insurance plan, in which the employer pays for the employees’ dental treatment without third-party organizations like insurance companies. In this plan you pay the dentist, then show the employer a receipt listing the services you received and their cost. The employer pays 50-100 percent of your treatment, depending on its price.

But this insurance plan is not available to everyone.

The next dental plan is the indemnity plan, which allows you to choose your own dentist. The insurance company will pay 50-80 percent of the service costs, and you will have to pay the rest of it.

Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) comprise another dental plan model in which you choose a dentist from a defined list or network. The dentists provide services at a lower cost than the usually charged fees for certain services. But if you choose to receive treatment from a dentist who is not participating in a PPO, the treatment cost will be higher.

And there are the capitation plans, which pay a group of contracted dentists a fixed fee regardless of whether treatment is needed. In return the dentists provide you with treatment at no charge.

You should be very careful while choosing an individual dental plan. It would be best to get advice to help you choose the plan which fits you best.
